Katy’s Journey: Part 1

East Toronto Chinese Baptist Church > Blog > Katy’s Journey: Part 1

Note from the editors: Katy joined a short term missions trip facilitated by Wycliffe Bible Translators. As a linguistics students, she felt called to be a part of this work in translating the Word in a remote region of Nigeria.  We’ll be sharing excerpts from her updates over the next few days.  Keep up with Katy’s Team here

Subject: Nigeria 2013 Update

Hello friends!

April is already coming to an end, and it is hard to believe that my trip is coming up in just a few days. I will be leaving my home…to spend the weekend at a retreat centre in Milton for pre-departure training.

– I had the privilege to share with all three congregations (English, Mandarin and Cantonese) at my church today and last Sunday, and have them send me off with prayers. Everything went smoothly (even though I had to speak entirely in Cantonese…! Language is so important…heh), and again – it is so very encouraging and comforting, knowing that I have many brothers & sisters who are praying for and with me!

– Please continue to pray for peace in Nigeria, and the safety of the long-term missionaries working there as well as that of my teammates and myself for the duration of our 1.5-month trip.

Truly, I am blessed to have a wonderful family who supports me, and parents who are willing to have faith and let me follow God’s leading to Africa this summer as well. :)

Blessings,

Katy :)

I’m sending this e-mail today with a deep, desperate plea for your prayers. A few of you may have heard a little more about the visa situation from me directly, and in the last update I had mentioned that we were hoping to get our passports/visas by today.

we don’t even know if we can go to Nigeria at the moment.  I’m not sure what to think – to be honest I feel like crying because this has been a shadow and an uphill battle…I don’t even want to imagine not going after all this preparation and investment from so many people.  But I know we really need to PRAY hard.  And we need your prayers more than ever right now too.  Please, please, please pray when you can for this…thank you.

In Christ,

Katy
