Dear friends and family,
Hope you are all well! As some of you may know, I will be going on a medical missions trip this November with EMAS Canada, which stands for Education, Medical Ait and Service. EMAS is a Christian organization which sends teams all over the world on medical missions. The particular team I will be going with is headed to Kunming, China. This is a plastic surgery team that has been going to Kunming for many years biannually, serving those who are unable to afford much-needed surgical care. I will be participating as one of the team’s anesthesiologists. We will be operating on approximately 70 patients over the 10 day mission, both children and adults, with ailments including cleft lips/palates, burn contractures, tumours, and various other conditions. We also provide postoperative medical care, as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy rehabilitation.
I believe that God placed the idea of medical missions on my heart when he called me to go into the field of medicine. I have been blessed with the ability to speak Manadarin, and communication is truly a huge asset in medical care, which is why I feel moved to serve the people of China. This is the second time I will be going with the team, and I am very excited to serve again, and witness the power of God and the amazing work He has been doing. I am hoping that you can support me in prayer with the following items:
Please pray for:
- Health and safety of all team members.
- Health and safety of our patients and their families, as some of them travel quite far from outside the city to get medical care.
- God’s guidance and provision as we decide on treatment options for our patients, in a setting with scarce resources.
- We are not allowed to evangelize through words or share the gospel, but many people do come to Christ through their actions, so please pray for the love of God to shine through to all our patients and their families.
Although I will not be fundraising for my own trip, donations to EMAS are always welcome and very much needed. The organization pays the individual hospitals for operating room time, postoperative time in the wards, buys and provides all medical supplies and medication, and we always need contingency funding in case one of our patients needs intensive care or further treatment. If you would like, please visit the following link, and direct your donations to the China South team: www.canadahelps.org/dn/6631
I look forward to sharing my experience with all of you.
Thanks for reading and God bless!
