Leadership Retreat Reflections Week 3

East Toronto Chinese Baptist Church > Blog > Leadership Retreat Reflections Week 3

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…

~ Colossians 3:23, NIV

Whatever, you do. Do it for the bigger picture, and not for your own glory, but for God’s.

This was the resounding message I heard today [Dec 18] after listening to our message.

Why is it significant you ask? Well, think of it this way. A lot of us may think that we are not making a difference. You can call it our humble Chinese thought patterns, or rather our personal insecurities. That if we slipped into the shadows, nobody would notice.

But sometimes, we need to think of ourselves as a puzzle piece that completes a beautiful picture. Or a missing link to complete a series. We matter, we are important. And without us, we are not a complete unit, we are not a complete picture. We can create change, and we as a community, as a group, can help those in need.

Then I thought about this week – how the world watched as Aleppo was beaten and broken down. We, as the world, watched helplessly, not knowing what we could do. But realistically, we could do so much however small or insignificant we think our help is. We actually can do something that can cause catastrophic chain reactions that nobody else could ever imagine but God.

I am not asking anyone to drop everything that they have to buy the next plane ticket to Syria. Let’s be real – we, as a Chinese group, probably do not speak the language and would just be dead weight.  So rather than doing that, what “small and insignificant change” can you do to help someone there or here to ease the pain that is going on today? What are some things that we are blessed with here that we can share and give freely?

What can you do to help with the bigger picture?
