St. Jude’s BBQ in Photos

Sam: “Want to bring your camera today and take pics for the event?”

Me: “Yea!!!”

That was my initial response when I was asked to take pictures at the St. Jude’s BBQ. Immediately, I started preparing my camera by recharging the battery, deleting unimportant photos from the memory card, and cleaning the lens. I was very excited.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a passion for photography. Taking photos has never really felt like a duty, nor a hassle. Instead, I consider it to be a fun hobby. It was my uncle who had really sparked my interest for the hobby, which I am really grateful for. During the summer of 2015, I received my very first DSLR camera: the Canon Rebel T5i. Since that day, my passion for taking photos became even stronger as I began to learn various techniques that professionals use in order to take higher quality photos. Obviously, I had a great time capturing many wonderful moments at the BBQ.

While taking the photos, I had lots of fun. Instead of only taking photos of people, I experimented with doing close ups of various foods. The food served to the volunteers were so bright and vibrant; I loved how beautifully they turned out in the photos.

Even the kitchen was aesthetically built that it was hard to stop taking photos of everything that caught my eye. Which is why I ended up taking more than 200 pictures, but only sent Sam around 100 or so. Anyways, taking pictures of people spending time with each other, was also a pleasure. I especially loved capturing moments full of joy and laughter. Looking back at these pictures puts a smile on my face.

I would also like to thank Shivarny and Sophie who also helped take photos, as well as Sam for giving me this opportunity.

There are still so many different things I would like to experiment with and experience, and taking photos at events, like the BBQ, has allowed me to do so. I hope to capture more memories like these in the future.
